For programme managers, researchers and community health professionals, access to accurate and updated information is key to planning interventions and other relief measures.

As an internet based reporting system, ProMED (The Program for Monitoring Emerging Diseases) is dedicated to rapid dissemination of information on infectious diseases outbreak globally. It is a tool to generate information also on acute exposures to toxins that impact human health, through animals and plants grown for food or as animal feed. Providing the latest and most reliable news from around the world, it draws attention to critical details that could be a threat to human, animal and plant life. Using a reliable electronic communication system, it is easy to use, access and store.

This section helps provide information on recent encephalitis outbreaks in South and Southeast Asia region.

In order to generate information on a particular disease outbreak, you can follow the steps below:
1. Go to www.promedmail.org
2. In order to search the archives for posts on the specific diseases, go to Search Archives in the menu on the left and type the following:
• Under the Archive search box enter the disease name. You can also search the archives for posts by date or by keyword (such as, "Japanese encephalitis" or “India”) or both date and subject. Use from the following: Japanese Encephalitis, Encephalitis, Tick-borne encephalitis, NipahHendra Virus, West Nile Virus, Enterovisus 68, Enterovirus, Chikungunya, Dengue, Hantavirus.
• Dates must be selected from the calendar or entered as MM/DD/YYYY. You may leave the start or end date blank if you would like your search to be open-ended.
• Logical conditions of AND, OR and NOT may be used in your search, all in upper case.
• The Regional Network you select determines the required language of your search term. If you select ProMED-FRA, you should enter a search term in French. The logical conditions AND, OR and NOT should always be written in English.
3. In case you subscribe to the page to receive updates, you can save a search and use the Archive Number later in order to go directly to that search the next time you log in.
